Boston Scientific’s proven SCS therapy can be personalised to deliver the lasting relief you need—where and when you need it.

Nothing but the best for you: all our systems come with industry-leading technology, enabling your doctor to deliver your therapy with precision, tailored to your individual needs and with the flexibility to adapt your treatment as needed.

Types of Implantable Pulse Generators (IPGs)

Every individual is unique. We offer a variety of options that allow your physician to choose the best therapy for you. There are two types of stimulators, or IPGs, with varying MRI-conditionality.

Rechargeable

WAVEWRITER ALPHA™
WAVEWRITER ALPHA™ 16
Precision Montage™*
Spectra WaveWriter™
Precision Spectra™
Precision Plus™

Non-Rechargeable

WAVEWRITER ALPHA™ PRIME
WAVEWRITER ALPHA™ PRIME 16
Precision Novi™*

* Previous models have been implanted in the past. Not all have the same therapy capabilities described or MRI-conditionality, although all are based on the same hardware technology.

What is the difference?

The main difference between these two stimulators is the longevity of the device. Though the systems use the same core technology, each offers some unique benefits.

  • Our rechargeable systems are expected to last for at least 12 years.1 Recharging is very simple to do and information on the process can be found here.
  • Our non-rechargeable systems do not need to be charged by the patient. Depending on therapy usage and stimulation settings, a battery could last from one to seven years.1 When the battery is depleted, surgery for a replacement device would be called for.

MRI Conditionality

There are varying degrees of MRI-conditionality across all our stimulators:

  • Our WaveWriter Alpha™ portfolio and Precision Montage™ MRI SCS systems are full-body MRI conditional.
  • Spectra WaveWriter™ and Precision Spectra™ SCS systems are head-only MRI conditional.
  • Precision Novi™ and Precision Plus™ are not MRI conditional.

Therapeutic options

The right therapy, exactly where you need it.

Following surgery and recovery, your SCS system will be turned on and the stimulation settings will be customised for you. Our SCS systems are designed to find your unique pain relief settings using a wide range of therapy waveform options that can be adjusted to maintain therapy in the right spot over time. Boston Scientific has developed multiple proprietary algorithms and therapies for our SCS devices, in addition to introducing Combination Therapy,* which can layer multiple therapies and engage multiple mechanisms of action simultaneously.

*Please note that Combination Therapy, FAST™ and Microburst™ are only available in our Spectra WaveWriter™ and WaveWriter Alpha™ portfolio.
